Description
Tecoma hybrid – Sparky
Sparky is a fast-growing, well-behaved colorful blooming shrub. The bright flowers are large bell-shaped rich golden color with a dark orange to nearly red throat, that are formed in large clusters at the branch tips. Tecomas are summer-tough annual to perennial color options! Spectacular for large container plantings in the Midwest & northeast gardens as summer annuals. They fill a delightful niche in warmer climate gardens where they provide flushes of blooms from spring to fall. Plants can freeze back with temps around 30°F but will recover quickly after stems are cut back to the ground. Most are root hardy to around 10°-15°F. We got the start of this plant a long time ago from our good friend and Tecoma breeder George Hull who was an adjunct professor at ASU and named this plant after the ASU mascot – Sparky – Go Sun Devils! Sparky blooms are sterile so keep blooming and rarely produce any seed pods.
